<p>It depends on where you are from. I've spoken with friends from Singapore, and over there Johns Hopkins has a highly reputable name. Same goes for any of the mid-atlantic states. </p>

<p>In New England, since we are surrounded by so many other amazing universities (i.e. the Ivy League universities, and the New England Small College Athletic Conference colleges). But regardless of where you are from, almost all professional industries recognize Johns Hopkins as a "famous" institution.</p>

<p>Best Hospital in the World: Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), arguably. Hopkins is most definitely up there.</p>

<p>JHU's esteem in the medical field unequivocally overshadows all of their other excellent programs, some of which are among the best in the country---at least for people who aren't directly involved with the school (some random person on the street)</p>
