Is the overall jpa or major gpa most important for selective majors?

I'm a Biological Sciences major planning to apply Davis, Santa Barbara, Santa Cruz and Irvine. Does admissions care more about the GPA of the required courses for your major more than the overall GPA?

My overall GPA will hopefully be 3.35 by the end of fall, my major GPA will be higher than that (3.63-3.75).

I’d appreciate anybody who has some knowledge of this, I’m sure it’d be helpful to others too

Only at UCLA - I believe. They take your major courses GPA into consideration. The other campuses, including Cal, not at all really.

UCSB has a screening GPA, you must have at least a 2.7 in the year of GenChem and Plant/Animal/Cell Bio for the major. The series can be found on assist.org if you are at a CCC. If you meet the screening GPA and you are an overall competitive applicant than you will be admitted to that major.

Page 8 has all the answers you need.
