I posted this in the wrong section. Anyway, I took a tour of NYU a while ago and it seemed perfect for me. I seems like your more like a student in New York rather than part of a big campus "college experience." Which is exactly what I'm looking for, independence. However, I could tell who the students were and they didn't really seem like the kind of kids I'd hang out with (hipsterish), which who knows, but they weren't my typical kind of friends. Also are there a lot of parties? Kind of looking for that too. Thanks for any help!

There are very few on-campus parties, since alcohol is very controlled in dorms and since RAs live on every floor usually, parties get shut down pretty quickly. Most parties will be off-campus at bars, clubs, etc.

The freshmen class is some 5,000 students – there are plenty of very different types of people at NYU.

NYU is not a “party school” as I’ve heard, it is very expensive ($70k a year and increasing) to even consider it as a “party school!” NYU is a diverse university where you will find different kinds of people!
Just my opinion as a parent!

My D attends NYU, actually she just graduated,YEAH! and she also says there are a lot of hipsters, but there are so many other types of very cool, artsy, creative, nerdy kids. You will find your tribe. Give it some time. Get involved in dorm activities and clubs. It will work out.

There are parties if you wan parties. There are people who don’t party if you don’t want to party. There are people of all different backgrounds and people of all different tastes. AND you’re in one of the most diverse cities in the world.

How can NYU not be diverse?
