Is the school spirit really that bad???

Does UCSD's spirit suck that bad. Is anyone proud to be a Triton? Are any sports popular on campus?

:) I'm proud to be a Triton!

me toooo. UCLA's too overrated, UCB's too far from home, and too many of my high school friends are going to UCI. so UCSD feels just right to me.

I concur. I'm very excited to be a triton. Yay ucsd. Yay for pretty beaches, and yay for sunny san diego.

School spirit really does blow here. The lack of competitive sports has to do with much of it unfortunately.

im excited too. but i agree, the lack of division I sports contribute to the lack of the usual school spirit. but i say, its what you make it. ill be going to sporting events for sure.

UCSD is way underrated as a sports school. It's just that the sports that most people care about aren't very good here. Our aquatic sports are really freaking amazing. And yes, I'm SO proud to be a Triton :) There's a reason I chose UCSD over UCB and UCLA!!

Well i guess it sounds like it isn't too bad there. What sports are popular at UCSD then?

My favorites after football of course are soccer, volleyball, and basketball, so are those sports pretty popular?

I don't follow the sport teams at UCSD that much becbut I doause they pretty much suck know the badminton team is pretty good. I think they won some big tourny at Yale or something last year; my friend is on the team . Men's volleyball I am told was very competitive a few years ago but since I've been here, they pretty much suck too. But then again its division II so that isnt saying much.

ucsd doesn't have a football team...

waterpolo, swimming, all water-related sports are very good, and I think tennis might be div I too.

their surfing team has won a lot of competitions too

Well with the lack of football, I was really hoping maybe some other sports were pretty big.

So from your replies, I'm pretty sure water sports are the only sports UCSD students care about. Surfing and waterpolo are pretty cool, so I guess it would be alright.

I'm still not sure if I will apply to UCSD, but oh well thanks for your opinions.

yea...if you're looking for big school spirit...you're not going to find it at UCSD. Usually it's football that schools find their school spirit in; the lack of a football team at UCSD definitely means little school spirit when compared to other schools

no worries guys, sd is loaded with other sports related activities you can fill your time. you can go down to sdsu for football games and the chargers are nearby as well. the padres are pretty close too. heck, im going to a laker game in sd in october against the hated suns. so if our school is lacking in sports, look else to fill the void, theres plenty of alternatives.

^^^
this is all true but the thread is about school spirit. the school lacks those major sports and therefore in school spirit...you can't look elsewhere for that...unfortunately

haha sorry about straying of the the topic. ucsd is pretty much a non-sports school, most of the ppl here are nerds who'd rather stay in their dorms playing starcraft. it really is a shame that we dont have a competitive sports team.

dude what are you guys talking about...UCSD's football team is UNDEFEATED!!!! GO TRITONS!

LMAO...thats right...they ARE undefeated!!! haha...considering they've never played a game! if only we really had a team (sigh) :/ haha

either way...GO TRITONS!!

but we do have a football team...

heh.
