I really wanted to get a macbook but right now it looks like I wont be able to afford it. I'm thinking about getting the sony CS but I wonder how it will stand up to college use.
It's the 14.1 inch one. It has 2.53gHz, 320HDD @7200rps and 4GB of RAM but no blue ray for only $1000 including taxes. Is that a good deal and will it last my whole time. I dont think that I'd carry it to each class as a bio major but I probably would take it out of my room a lot. Also, I dont watch movies a lot but would it still be worth it to get the bluray reading drive for an extra $80?

i very seriously doubt that dvd will be phased out by the time you get your next computer, so i would not recommend that upgrade.

but yeah, this sounds like a pretty good deal for a vaio. sony products are expensive, but you’d be hard pressed to find another manufacturer do better.

DVDs aren’t going anywhere anytime soon. You don’t need Blu-Ray unless you plan on buying Blu-Ray discs.

(I personally await the day optical media dies!)

The CS series has something called “Ground Effects” where pulsating colored LED lights are displayed on the bottom/front area. I asked (via chat with a salesperson on the sony site) if the lights can be disabled as I was told, no. You may want to see it for yourself before you commit to it. Son didn’t want to take the chance so he bought a different brand of laptop.

I was considering this laptop too but it sounded like there were some fan problems in the CS1 series (i think). Other ppl said that the newer models have fixed this problem, but I dont think i will be buying this comp. The lights on the laptop only dance when you use Sony’s music player (w/e its called), so if you use like Windows Media Player, the lights on the bottom wont dance. However, I heard that when you rub the top of the laptop, the lights do light up. Nifty! :D
