Has anyone seen the new Vaios? They're very nice looking, and you can get an amazing configuration for only $1300. Anyone else interested?

Not really. Sony's have pretty low build quality. I made the mistake of buying an HP laptop that was cheap and looked good; it has quite a few hardware problems. In a few days, I will be getting my new ThinkPad, which cost a little more and doesn't look nearly as good, but has very high build quality.

I agree with the HP low build quality. I have dealt with 5-6 HP laptops in the past 2 years and I can say that they are pretty bad in terms of problems, especially ones that pop up a few months after warranty expires.

As for Sony, I haven't heard anything particularly bad about their quality (nothing good either), so I guess they are about par with the rest like Toshiba, etc. But I have heard that their customer service has a bad rep. So I guess you better pray that your laptop is problem free.

I have a Sony CR220E, purchased around Christmas time last year. I assumed the CR would be the predecessor of the CS series... Anyway, I haven't had any problems at all with my laptop's hardware. I'm rather in love with it. The only issues I've had are with Vista--which I also love, btw. There was a sound issue that was fixed thanks to Sony's software updates and I've had major issues working with iTunes on this computer, although I think the latest version might have solved at lot of the problems. It actually opened and played music the other day. Quite surprising.

You might want to check out forum.notebookreview.com and look at their Sony forum. You can ask questions there and get pretty good answers from people who know what they're talking.
