For business, you don’t need a powerful computer. Basically you want to run MS Office. Sony’s are good. They are available at BestBuy, and you can have them serviced there.

Overpriced.

For what you get in terms of specs, they’re at least $50-100 more than other brands. They also have shorter battery lives. But they do last well.

theres nothing special about vaios in general. they do tend to be overpriced, but prices tend to equalize at brick and mortar business like best buy. its a solid brand. not many bad things to say about them, but their lower end consumer line products dont have anything unique about them.

Everything said is essentially true. I just bought the Vaio Z (higher end model) for quite a lumpsum, but it’s a really solid computer and worth every penny. It has huge battery life (5+ hrs), excellent build quality, tactile keyboard, an incredible screen (1600x900, by far the best resolution on a screen of its class), massive power (2.66 GHz dual core on the one I got), sleek looks, and EXTREMELY light. I like to think of it as a netbook on roids’ :). The one major negative of course is the price, but if you have the money to shell out, you won’t regret it for a second.

their higher end laptops are basically the macs of the windows world.

Oh yeah: If you order direct from Sony, you can support the US manufacturing industry because they actually put together those laptops in California. (I know, it’s weird to point out)

I believe they’re also having a sale right now, so those Sony’s are a better value than they normally are.

Right now Vaios are priced very well during this promotion. I was able to get the FW series for $1,400 which included 3 year warranty, case, flash drive, and a very nice laptop. To get the extra $250 just add a warranty and two accessories. I shopped around and found that the FW was the cheapest compared to every major retailer with the same specs. The only problem with Vaios might be their support as i think it is not the greatest and you need to get rid of the bloatware.
