I’m interested in SBU for their nursing and psychology programs. I know their computer science program is competitive, but is it the same competitively as their nursing and psychology programs? If so, what Can I do to stand out in my application? I was an intern for a hospital during the summer, and was a STEM program coordinator for middle school students. Do they look at at science regents grades too?
I’m still a junior, so I’m still looking for medical-related oppurtunities available to me.
Very competitive, yes. We don’t generally admit first-year students directly into the program; you’ll take two years of prerequisites first, and then apply into the School of Nursing in the middle of your second year.
Two reasons, really. One, they want you to have things like college chemistry and anatomy & physiology done first before admitting you. And two, you want to keep your options open. If you decide that after a year you want to do something else like social work or biology or whatever, your intro courses still put you on track.
Hope this makes sense!
