i know it's is optional but i just wanted to get the options of people who have already taken the class. should i get it? what's it for exactly?

It’s just the answers to the problems in the book. If your professor decides to assign them to you, it might be of help. I personally wouldn’t bother with it. If you need help with the problems, consult other people and/or go to office hours.

It shows you the answers to problems in the book and it shows you how it got the answers. It depends. Are you very good about asking people for help, going to office hours? If so, you won’t need it since you can always ask. If you don’t like doing that or like to cram before the exams (which means you won’t be able to ask for help), the solutions manual will be very helpful.

IF someone you know, like your roommate, has a copy then its no big deal but you are going to want the answers to the practice problems when you are doing them.
It does a little more than give an answer too, the solution book usually explains step by step how to do the problems it gives the answer to.

Yeah but sometimes the steps are more complicated than they need to be. Eh it’s your call. I didn’t bother with one and I did perfectly fine.

Yeah, it depends on the poster because although you did fine without one, I think I did better with one. It could be that I struggled with chemistry in general and I had to practice and see answers to understand things better. Others don’t. I guess it’s all subjective.

I should have prefaced my response with: I didn’t have a solution manual either =D and did just fine. I just remember always having 1 or 2 practice problems a section that I couldn’t figure out for the life of me why I was getting it wrong when I knew only the answer.

I heard that we can also borrow the solutions manual from the library? Is this true?

possibly a lot of professors put the required course books on 1-2 hour reserve so you can borrow it for a short time

I would say NO!
