When buying college textbooks, should one buy the solution manuals too?

Well? (10 Char)

In all of the classes I've taken, yes, you should. From language classes to math classes (less so for classes in which there are odd answers in the back of the book or something; then you should be ok, but still I like to have the solutions to the evens as well), teachers/professors say, "Do you have any questions?" and without the solution manual how do you know what you did right and what you did wrong? How do you know what questions to ask? My grades are always MUCH better when I am able to evaluate my work myself before coming into class, so that I even know what I need help on! A lot of times I get a problem wrong that I thought I did perfectly. Without a solution manual I never would've been able to recognize my problem and then take the steps I need to fix it before an upcoming quiz, test, or other graded assignment.

Awesome advice. It'll definitely be worth an extra $50 or so for the solution manuals.

Thanks!

I agree with and second what feellikealeech said.

solutions manuals are useful but they can be dangerous in that one might give up on a problem prematurely since they can easily glance at an manual to discover the solution (i say this from experience). but as long as you remember restraint, they are well worth it.

definitely get it

coldsweat makes a good point. Realize that if you look at it without trying, you are only treating yourself, as the professors probably don't care whether you actually do the homework or not.

GO TO library and make copies of only the pages you need
