I'm wondering if this would be considered cheating or not.. I would just use it to check my answers. Would it be useful?

Yes, it will absolutely save your life.

Its not considered cheating because if you’re trying to learn how to do the problems sometimes it helps to have the answer and work backwards. Its only cheating if you use the answers without knowing how to do the problem. I bought the solutions manual for my chemistry textbook and it has been great. Whenever I don’t know how to do a problem I look up the answer in the solutions guide, work it out and figure it out. When used correctly it is a great study tool.

It is useful to have, as long as you actually use it to learn and not just copy the answers. If you do that then you are just shooting yourself in the foot because well…you don’t get a solution manual for exams now do you :D

If it’s a class that your struggle with, then why not? You don’t have to tell the professor you have it.

I copy instructor solutions manuals all the time. Saves loads of time from having to do homework problems. The argument that cheating on the homework => failing exams might be true for some people, but clearly not true for everyone.

It purely depends on how you use the solution manual. You’ve already said you’re using to check your answers, which is the best way. Some students use solutions manuals as a crutch. They go about doing their homework, more concerned with getting the right answer, so that they can get full homework credit. Most are more concerned with the final answer rather than the procedure to obtaining that answer.

In the end, the one’s who know the procedure will always do better in the end. You sound like one of those student’s, and no, it’s not cheating.

As long as it fits in your budget I would go for it…I find it helps me teach myself how to do the problems
