Is the summer housing worth it

I'm going to do summer session and I wanted to know if 2000 for a month in housing is worth it .
My rent right now is 575 and I've never spent more then 500-550 a month in food , is there some strange hidden cost that pushing it to 2000$. IS the food going to be utterly amazing or something ?

no! thats freaking ridiculous. i JUST got an email from someone willing to sublet for 200 a month

Thank you, I just wanted make sure my poor mans background wasn’t blinding me to the awesome values .

And as for that person offering a 200$ sublent, do they have any friends in the same situation ?

Are you talking about the dorms for the summer session? University dorms are expensive because the demand for it is inelastic; students would pay the expensive rent because they don’t want to go through all the hassle of finding a place to live, want live closer to campus, and so on.

$200 sublet!!! Wow… How far is it from campus? Is it furnished? Are utilities included? Do you have to share the room with someone else?

Based on my observations in the area, most subleases and regular leases are around $600-$700 for the summer (except for the occasional $400-$500 sublease with no utilities included or with no furniture).

You guys got any more advice or recommendation for summer housing. Cause Im not about to shell out 4k for dorm housing…

yes, but if i remember correctly it was only available until sometime in august. some people give super low prices because they just want to recoup some of their losses, not everything. i dont remember the details. i got a lot of emails in my rmail account from people willing to sublet. usually for around $400-$600, price depending largely on utilities. i would forward you guys contact info, but im not sure if that’s against this site’s tos and there’s just too many emails.

Don’t forward contact info, just tell all the people trying to sublet to look at this forum and sign up to contact us directly . Theres more students who need to sublet their places then students who want to rent them .
The quarter ends june 10th so expect the deals to get better the closer it gets to that date .

My gutar teacher told me a story of a time he got to rent a place for half the asking price since he found someone right before finals , so it can happen

If these students don’t sublet their places they have to pay like 2 months in rent for nothing , I’m rethinking my travel plans . Originally I was just going to go on campus, before I saw the 2,000$ a month price . Anyway good luck all…

The dorms are ridiculous. If you are an incoming Freshman, I would definitely recommend it for the experience and all but if you are a current UCR student, finding private apts should not be hard. Im living at the University Village Towers for the summer (literally 2 min drive or 15 min walk from UCR). I looked at Gran Marc, Copper Canyon and UVT. There are plenty of subleases available. The great thing about UVT is you don’t pay per month for summer housing, you pay per session.

It’s $600/session and Im taking 2 sessions. There is a $200 security deposit but if nothing happens that money gets returned to you.

The other places charge by month and 2 sessions = 3 months. Gran Marc ranges from $750 - $800 / month.

All prices are based on individual leases.

Thanks for the tip on UVT.
I’m going to call them next week to see about renting a place .

Just pulled the trigger on a summer lease at UVT as well.

Instead of signing up for a lease with the UVT, I would suggest waiting for a cheap sublease from a current UVT resident. It is cheaper to sublet than to sign up for a new lease with the UVT.
