Being an out of stater, it appears as though it is a good rivalry. what is it like down in Gainesville?

Huge.
My kids are going to the game on Saturday, cutting their Thanksgiving visit short. Seems like UF is developing rivalries with just about everyone nowadays, though- UGa, Auburn, U South Carolina, FSU, to name a few.

You forgot about Ohio State. But it isn't much of a rivalry... We own them

It's a better rivalry when FSU is good. Lately FSU has been mediocre where UF has had some outstanding years.

The game is quite unpredictable...I would say UF will win easily this year, but frequently the outcome is unexpected.

Yup, this year is just the type of year that could find FSU with an upset. Then again, UF could win by a large margin. I'd like to see it be interesting/close. I know who I'm rooting for ;).

It's a big enough deal that my son has decided to forgo Thanksgiving at home so that he can stay in Gainesville :(

It will be my first Thanksgiving in 21 years without him! That makes me sad!

I expect him to call me around 20 times on Wednesday and Thursday asking how to cook a turkey and all the trimmings! He and his neighbors are doing their own Thanksgiving.

Can't wait to hear how that turns out ;)

It was better in the 90's, when the Gators were clearly the best in the SEC and FSU was the best in the ACC (and always in the top 5 nationally). But it's still a great environment and should be competitive.

No offense to the School-Out-West but it wasn't that hard to be the top team in the ACC during the 90's. Aside from FSU, pretty much all of those teams were mediocre.

Having said that there was a reason FSU was labeled the Team of the 90's by Sports Illustrated. They used to always have the fastest defense in the nation year in and year out. Also when Richt was the OC they used to air it out as well.

FSU was extremely good during the 90s. They didn't call it a "dynasty" for nothing. We all became spoiled at such success.

The current environment in college ball is different now. Maybe it's better overall when the Appalachian States can beat the Michigans? Not so fun if you're a Michigan! Losing to Wake has been a killer. I mean, really - Wake Forest?

Go 'Noles!

I would rather have the Big University Monopoly again. I hate seeing teams with little gridiron prestige disgrace the superpowers...

DS is coming home for turkey, but he's headed back up on Friday. He's covering the game for one of the UF radio stations (he's a telecom major) and SO excited about getting to go.

I'm pretty sure that if we lived too far for him to do both, I'd be giving turkey directions on the phone tomorrow.

Yep, Im going back up on sat too, no way I would miss this game. Tried to get my family tickets as well but couldnt so they are just coming up anyways. Cant wait!

The game has always been a little unpredictable, I remember back when I was in middle school we were winning till the last minute when the FSU quarterback through a hail marry and scored a touchdown. Wasnt fun.

Happy thanksgiving everyone!

It's a Catholic thing - a Hail Mary.

No nuptials were performed.

Sorry, parent2noles! I'm glad, however, to see Tim Tebow have a great game. He's such a wonderful guy and wow, what an exceptional athlete!

H went up to the game (as well as sons, although in separate cars) and it took about FIVE HOURS to make the normal almost 3 hour trip. Yikes, I'm glad I didn't go on this trip. I would have been clawing the car door at around Okahumpka.

I don't know where you were driving from, but we're in the St. Pete area, and my son takes the Veteran's Expressway to 19 to Archer (or vice-versa) when there's a good chance of an I-75 parking lot. Takes him about 3 hours that way. I-75 on a normal day is about 2 1/2 hours.

Auburn is not really a rivalry, and USC definitely isn't.

UGA is the traditional rival and FSU is newer. That's it.

I would classify Auburn and USC as informal rivalries, for lack of a better term. Auburn because they defeated UF for two years now, and last year was the ONLY team that defeated UF, even though the Gators went on to win the national championship, so that's pretty FRUSTRATING; and USC because Spurrier is there now and that's just an open sore, although it's healing very well. :)
