So far, I’ve been rejected by UCLA and UCD. I think the reason is I put Civil Engineer. However, I chose Undeclared for UCSD. Now my question is, did any of you guys get accepted into UCD or UCLA for choosing undeclared? Thanks

you chose the wrong school to apply undeclaired, first ucsd accepts you to the school then to you major. If your major and alrenate was impacted you would automatically be undeclaired.

So no one has gotten accepted as undeclared?

no im saying that you should have put a major because your major has nothing to do with getting into the school. you can get accepted to ucsd but not to your major.

actually ur choosing a 'hard' major has a lot of impact to whether or not schools accept you. for example, ucla, ucb, and cal poly slo pick only the top individuals for engineering majors since these schools are known for their engineering programs. now these schools wouldnt want to lower their prestige and accept low to average qualified applicants into their program will they? the only question i have is whether or not the undeclared major is IMPACTED at ucsd.

yes i understand at those schools the majors are impacted so for example lets take me.
my 1st choice bioengineering: premed
2ed choice bio chem

ok so i may get into ucsd but that doesnt mean i will get 'accepted' to my major. if i get rejected from bioeng i will be a biochem major. if by a chance i also get rejected from bio chem i will be undeclaired.

to answer your initial question undeclaired is not impacted

Yea you make a good point but let's say u get rejected from you 1st choice major. (take into consideration that ur majors are impacted and of course they are)Sure, they'll consider u for your 2nd choice but ur chances are slim to none..the thousands of well qualified applicants who chose biochem as their 1st choice will probably fill up the spots before they can offer you ur 2nd choice since they get priority. and as for undeclared being ur 3rd wave of priority..u kno where it stands

however, goodluck with ur bioengineer major. that's a great major.

that would only be if your second major is impacted, but ucsd uses a point scoreing system, and basically there is a cutoff for impacted majors higher then the cutoff for getting into the school.

Truth is the only impacted undeclaired major i kno of is undeclaired engineering at berkeley because many people try to use it as a backdoor to getting into EECS. at cal it is easier to get into civil engineering then into undeclaired enginnering

wat are ur stats by the way?

4.3 ucgpa 1400 sat I, 780 math IIc, 740 ushist, 720 physics, 550 writeing

wow those are strong stats. where'd u get accpeted to so far

so far im in at cal poly slo, uci, and ucd. I got rejected from la because i was stupid and put a engineering major as my first choice, but i dont like la anyways.

i see. was civil engineering impacted at davis?

umm i honestly dont kno much about davis engineering, engineering is difficult to get into at most ucs. what were your stats

not so great. 3.8gpa, 1200 sat, 650 sat2math, 600sat2writing..
got rejected from slo, la, ucd. i put civil for all those schools..
and for irvine..i put undeclared and got in

for UCSD, if you make the cutoff for getting into the school itself, but don't make the cutoff for an impacted major, will they still accept you into the school as undeclared? cause i applied for structural engineering and im afraid that will hurt my chances (like it did for ucla)

i got into davis for civil engineering..im pretty sure it was impacted, but i dont know for a fact

I agree that declaring for an impacted major will affect admissions. I had a 3.9 or so and a 1330 but was rejected from UCB, UCSD, and UCSB a couple years back. Methinks it was because I declared for the premed-heavy bio programs.

Yeah, I don't think I make the cut for Computer Engineering at UCSD since it's impacted...

According to UCSD's admission page, the following are impacted majors, which all has to do with the engineering department:

Currently, the following majors are considered impacted for freshmen:
Computer Science, and Computer Engineering (within the Computer Science and Engineering Department); Electrical Engineering, and Computer Engineering (within the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department); Bioengineering; and Bioengineering: Biotechnology.
