Any good ones

Years ago we received a ‘pay your way through college with scholarships’ book from a well intended friend. And one of their ‘tips’ was to start early getting outside scholarships. Like the rest of the book, while there might have been a sliver of truth in this, it is definitely rare.

The vast majority of outside and Institutional scholarships are for entering college fr. And you will find that substantial outside scholarships are both highly competitive and usually are need based. Local outside scholarships are your best bet, but they are generally for smaller amounts (<1k) and only for 1 year. There are sometimes exceptions if you are planning to attend IS public colleges. The vast majority of substantial, renewable for 4 yr scholarships are Institutional, through the colleges you apply to. Check the college websites for schools you’re interested in and see if they offer merit aid, and check the sticky threads at the top of this forum as well.
