I’m a second-year high school student in Charlottesville, Virginia. I’m taking all honors classes, plan to take 7 AP classes in high school, and currently, have a 4.25 weighted GPA. I’ve always wanted to go to UVA and have recently been stressing out about my chances. I’ve taken Model UN, founded a literature and philosophy club, and am involved in a few other clubs. I have volunteered in the past, but I haven’t been doing it so much this year. I am really interested in studying English or Psychology in college. What are my chances to get into UVA/what are some other schools I should look at? I don’t want to be far away from my family when I do go to college.
UVA is obviously the choice to make considering you want to stay close and live in Charlottesville. Your GPA is fine and your AP count is also good. I would spend this year by getting straight A’s and studying in advance for standardized tests which you will spend your time on next year. An instate student with your GPA and courses should aim for a 1400+ to get a lock on acceptance.
