So I’m a senior right now and I’m wondering whether I will get rescinded. I’ve had pretty ok grades so far, all semesters I had like 2-3 B’s and rest A’s. I have a pretty intense chronic medical condition which really caused a lot of that. But my senior yr first semester my condition got really bad, I couldn’t walk, had a lot of complications/side effects of my medications, and was almost hospitalized. Overall, I had a pretty terrible first semester and could never focus on schoolwork and ended up with a lot of B’s and one C. I had a moderately rigorous schedule with 3 AP classes. Where can I explain this when the schools I applied to will inevitably see my mid-year report.
B’s and a C are unlikely to cause a problem, though I would send a note with the mid-year grades, if the situation is as described. I usually advise applicants to avoid trying to “explain” lower grades, but it’s appropriate when…well, when it’s truly appropriate. It sounds like the case in your situation.
Avoid Ds, Fs and Felonies. You should not be the one to explain bad grades. It should come from your school GC. Is yours aware of your condition and medical issues? If not, Have your parents explain to the GC.
Agree with both above. Ideally, this info should come from your guidance counselor. That makes it credible and less likely the school will think you are making excuses. Maybe even supply a doctors note if it might help your GC explain the situation more easily.
Meanwhile, try to relax a bit. You can only do your best. Don’t blame yourself for what is beyond your control.
