I get good grades, and I want to go to Stanford. I know that you're always supposed to try to get the best grade you can (which I do), but will it make a difference if I get an A instead of an A+ in a class, particularly to that college?

Most schools, including my daughter’s, don’t even give out A+s. Remember that it is not only your grades that a college is looking at but the rigor of your curriculum.

I doubt Stanford counts A+'s as a lot of schools don’t give them. They will figure your gpa out of a 4.0, so a 4.33 wouldn’t be used. An A and an A+ would both count for 4.0 (they possibly give it more weight if it an honors or AP course and they might weight it more depending on your school…i.e. top private schools with a known rigorous curriculum). They probably won’t even count it if it in a non-academic core.

A+'s don’t really count…my school doesn’t even have +/-

Yeah, most schools drop the pluses and minuses while evaluating their applicants’ GPA.

My Ds school reports only up to A. They DO use B+, B-, etc. But no A+.

Her OLD high school not only reported A+s, but they actually assigned them a 4.33.

Colleges know how to look and weigh all this, then high schools think they’ve found another nick in the armor and try something new. Just get your best grades, turn them in, apply, hold your breath, and good luck!

I think I got 2 of those in my entire high school career. Somehow it screams “Grade Inflation!!!”
