Is there a place to see how students rate certain classes?

@OP

One site where they rank course load and GPA distributions of classes is myedu.com
However, I don’t think that the ratings are done by students.

I had Kristan for BIPN 100 and Schroeder for BILD 2. I’m not saying it was an easy class or anything like that, but I really didn’t find it that different from BILD 2 where in BILD 2 we covered a greater variety of topics but less in depth.

Wow, I’m very surprised. That’s the first time I’ve heard that opinion before about BIPN 100. Personally, it required the most amount of information to memorize to get an A compared to all other classes I’ve taken here. It wasn’t complex, but just alot. I didn’t take Kristan, though. I have friends who aced BILD series with ease and struggled in BIPN 100 and got B’s. I think it could depend on the professors though. I’m speaking in a general sense. My professor made us go into a lot of detail and it didn’t seem like it was possible to know EVERYTHING.

I got a B in BILD 1, a B in BILD 2, a C in BILD 3 (completely inexcusable), and then a B in BIPN 100. I think that’s more of a testament to my poorer studying habits in classes that I find easier, but either way. I will admit that I’ve had some difficulties academically in my first two years. By that I mean I’ve gotten B’s in classes where I should have gotten A’s, and C’s in classes where I should have gotten B’s or A’s. I haven’t failed any classes and my GPA is a 3.1, so it’s not like I’m about flunk out of college or anything like that, but I definitely have not done as well as I know I can. Needless to say I’m really going to work hard to turn things in a better direction for myself but it’s the reason for my seemingly strange grades like a C in BILD 3 and a B in BIPN 100 and also why I feel like my grades haven’t always necessarily reflected my experiences with some classes.

^You’re a smart guy. I think you know what you HAVE to do, but it’s just a matter of doing it. Sometimes the smallest differences make the BIGGEST differences. Like, try going to a study session at Geisel without a laptop. It’s usually the little things that add up when it comes to getting the A over the B. It’s not necessarily things like going to discussions and whatnot, cuz most of the time if you dont pay attention in discussion it was like an hour wasted. I feel like good study habits is a test of willpower. As stupid as it sounds, sometimes I have to pretend like I’m interested in a subject to do well in it. Also, no one can study all day. We gotta relax too. Moreso, have study sessions of 3-4 hours of just purely studying with no eating breaks/internet breaks etc. and that intensive time is usually good enough to get you an A if you do it often. For bio classes… it literally is a matter of sitting down and memorizing material time after time to make sure you got all the details in your head so you can literally write it all out on paper (regurgitation). Problem solving classes are more like, see how many you can do without looking at the answer key… although I’ve known some ppl to just ONLY study from an answer key and do just fine as well as long as they study how to get it instead of glancing at it with minimum input.

^I definitely know what I have to do and it is a matter of doing it. My problem is that I procrastinate a lot and when I go to study I have a really difficult time focusing and my mind wanders off and I end up not getting anything done until the last minute. This has sort of always been my problem but school up until college had been easier for me so I guess I was just able to get away with it. I don’t think my classes are too hard, I just have trouble focusing. I’m perfectly fine in class though. I rarely miss any class or section and can easily sit down for an hour and 20 minutes and focus on the lecture. Part of the reason I do as well as I do is just from understanding things in lecture the first time I hear it. Yeah I’m not failing my classes but I know I need to be doing a lot more than I am.

Anyway, what I’m really going to try to do is right after class when everything is fresh in my mind, I’ll go to the library and study instead of going back to my mom and getting distracted. For some people the answer to my problem seems sooooooooooooooo OBVIOUS and that I JUST HAVE TO DO IT, which ultimately is true, but for some people it may be hard to understand that for some people like me it really is difficult to change a bad habit such as this and it’s not always as easy as just doing it. I’ve gone to the library with literally no distractions and have barely gotten anything done. Sometimes my mind just wanders like I said. Needless to say, I’m not going to make any excuses for myself or justify my actions, I’m just going to try as hard as I can to make better habits for myself so I don’t get stuck with all my work to do at the last minute.

And like I said before, I’m not failing classes or I’m not depressed or anything like that. I just need to really work on my study habits. And the only reason for bringing it up is because I don’t feel like my grades have always necessarily reflected my class experiences. I know I got a C in BILD 3, but I wouldn’t call it harder than CHEM 140A even though I got a worse grade in BILD 3. I just REALLY didn’t study much for BILD 3. But that’s enough about that. I wasn’t trying to start a pity $KingsElite$ party. It was just some insight on my experiences.
