Is there a point in applying early for housing?

I'm going to be attending UCSB as a freshman in Fall of 2010 and was wondering if there was a point in applying early for the Residential Halls. I initially thought it was first come first serve but I've read that the housing decisions are lottery based. I'm also going to be attending UCSB's Open House on April 10th and I haven't seen the campus in person yet so should I just wait till I see the campus before applying for housing since the decisions are lottery based anyway?

Correct. No reason to rush as long as you do it before the deadline.

I’ve already done my SIR, and gotten my UCSBnetID, and went to the housing site. When I clicked on the link to try to submit my preferences for housing, it told me the site wasn’t available yet. So you have nothing to worry about right now.

Alright. Thanks.

well i got an e-mail like a few hours ago & i think the preferences are open now but yeah you should probably wait till after you check out the campus =]
