Is there a possibility of me getting into a top 35 college?

This isn't a "what are my chances" post, but I pose more of a question: Do you think it's a realistic goal for me to get into a top 35 college? My resume/application might as well just be a blank piece of paper (I'm in sophomore year, but considering that a lot of sophomores in my school have stacked extracurriculars and higher GPA's than me)

GPA: 93 (Not sure what that converted into GPA form is, I assume around a 3.3 or a 3.4 out of a 4.0 scale?)
EC's: None, except that I volunteered at a doctor's office over the summer (Apparently that doesn't count since it's for profit), and I write articles sometimes in my down time. I can also write a killer essay, which is my #1 thing. No community service hours, no clubs, nothing.
APs: Sophomores don't take AP's except for AP Global class, which you have to qualify for, and I didn't. In my school, you're only allowed to take a certain amount of AP classes as your average allows you, so I can only take 2, and I will probably only take 2 next year.
Goal SAT Score: 2300 or above
Major: Undecided, but probably something to do with business. I don't know, I'm looking for the most lucrative career that yields the most interest in me, and right now it seems to be business, but that's a bit of a catch considering today's issues.

I really messed up freshman year and half of sophomore year. That 93 GPA is a generous weighted grade. Is a top 35 ranked university even realistic for me?

Can’t say without your real SAT score.

What’s your unweighted GPA?
You really need more extra curriculars, even little things. Also barrk123 is right, we need to know your actual SAT score.
Junior year is the most important year so beef up your resume, improve your grades, take your SATs and then come back to us. Good luck!

So you guys really think it’ll be enough if I beef up extracurriculars over the summer & junior year, improve my GPA, and demolish my SAT’s? I’m afraid of having my worst fears confirmed, one being the naivety of my thinking, and the other the possibility that it’s too late. It seems like you have to be well-rounded all 4 years of high school to even be considerable, and I’ve already wasted 2.

You need more than 2200 on the SAT and 700+ on the SAT subject tests. If your UW GPA is below 90, you might not even be on the top 20%. Top colleges really care about rank.

So do top colleges (top 35) want the 20% or around the top 10%?

extracurriculars and study harder!
you don’t have to go to a top school in order to get a good job

The top colleges do strongly prefer the top 10%. The statistic of what percentage of the study body was in their HS Top 10% is generally available, in the common data set or various internet pages and college guide books which give college statistics.

It varies by school, but I’ve seen numbers in the high 90s for Top 20 schools.
