Is there a way for school counselors to write about extenuating circumstances in mid-year report?

My GC already wrote my letter of rec, and apparently some of my schools won’t attach an email to my application, so is it possible for my GC to write about my circumstances in my mid-year report? I’m going to ask her tomorrow, but I just wanted to get some opinions from CC because, well, my GC isn’t really the “most informed”.

Or is there any other possibly ways that you guys have in mind? Thanks.

If you’re talking about the deaths in your family that contributed to the 2 B’s you had as a sophomore and the couple of B’s you’re expecting this year after the recent death of your grandfather, I think the best place for your GC to have addressed that would have been in her LOR, not in a separate email. If she didn’t, then adding a note to the mid-year report probably won’t hurt.

@austinmshauri Would there be a difference from writing about it in the LOR than the mid year report? And first off, do you know if it’s possible to write explanations on the mid year report?

You’d have to ask your counselor what she’s allowed to put in the mid-year report. If she already submitted your LOR and didn’t include the explanation, then I don’t think it matters what the difference is unless she can resubmit an updated LOR. I’m not sure I’d go out of my way to call attention to a couple of B’s, but I suppose it depends on the school. Your best bet is to go talk to your GC and see what she advises.

OP, I saw that you posted this earlier:

“I have received 2 B’s my freshman year, 4 B’s my sophomore year, 2 B’s my junior year, and it looks like I’m going to get 2 B’s my first semester senior year.”

I’m sorry for the loss of your family members, but honestly it raises a red flag for me that you keep looking to explain away B’s on your transcript due to the loss of extended family members. Also, it appears you have asked about this in multiple threads.

Your grades are what they are. I’d let it go. Good luck to you.
