Midyear report question

I'm a little worried, I did poorly on two of my midterm exams and received a B overall in both AP Calc. BC and AP Bio.

One, is it something to worry about?

Two, I guess the reason that I did poorly was due to grief over the recent death of a family member, another family member currently has an awful prognosis, and one of my 11th grade teachers passed away from cancer (it was at a magnet school so we have about 7 teachers who teach all our subjects so we're all really close with our teachers.)

So, anyways, should I have my counselor put a message in my mid-year report or would that be too "Woe is me" and look like I'm making excuses? Thanks in advance!

anyone? Please?

From what I've learned, a couple of Bs on midyear reports isn't something to lose sleep over. Then again, a guidance counselor's letter explaining your current situation wouldn't hurt, in my opinion, so why not?

I made one B (first of my academic career) this past semester, and I was so ticked.

BUT...it was an 89. Since Yale sees the thorough transcript (not just the letter grade), does this soften the blow a bit?
