Hey guys I just took the act back in June and received a 23. However, I did not do any prep for that test. I'm now wondering if I can improve my score to at least a 26 and hopefully a 27. Are there any tips or prep that I should do that can help improve my scores.

Practice, timed practice and more practice will usually result in a 2-4 point increase - focus on the english rules, grammar, etc. and keep taking practice tests - you should be able to meet your goal with diligence.

hey turnpiketexas my score is like the same as u … i also did pretty alright in math( 28) and rly low in 1 section… 20 on science. im just reading a lot of the barrons / princeton books and taking practice tests… i seem to be improving im hoping for a 26-28 also.

I went from a 24 to a 28 to a 32, so yes, it’s possible. Not hard when you study, which is very untrue for the SAT though. Good thing you chose the ACT for your future investment. :)

Math - 26, In the math section I thought I did really well. However, the result did not end up the way I wanted it.

Reading a- 26. I thought I did decent on the reading I ddn’t know what to expect due to my SAT Reading scores.

Science - 23, At the beginning of this section I could not concentrate. Believe it or not, I farted during this section and it smelt really bad. However, this was not the reason why I could not concentrate at first but later down the road it added on. In conclusion I randomly bubbled in the last 15 questions. I believe that the science is not as hard as everyone makes it out to be.

English - 18 I flat out just suck at grammar. I believe I can easily improve on this.

Writting - 20 English screwed me over on this one.

I know studying is not a problem because I studied my ass off for the SAT. I know I can do the same for the ACT. For all those who have studied for the ACT what are some good review books to use? I need yalls top two.

Ok, I got a 27, and I’m an idiot (so you can, too)

I would focus solely on English, math, and not farting.

Try “Cracking the ACT” if you want a good prep book for English. It is the best for that section. Also, try to figure out what you did wrong on math and try to find out how to hone down your number skills. The lack of a fart should get your science up a bit, and reading is fine.
