How much can I bump my score up?

I took the ACT in June and got a 24, first time, didn't study(Didn't even know the rules to the test until test day) and I was wondering if I study for the test is it possible to go from a 24 to a 29+ composite?

You can if you work hard.

Dude I swear if you make one more post about this same **** I’m reporting every one of them.

^
I know he made about 7 for if he can get the UC Irvine statistics.

lol…

10char

I took the ACT in April without studying and got a 24. (26E, 24M, 22R, 22S)

I started studying for the June ACT first by reading through Princeton Review and developing strategies that worked for me. When the test was less than a month away, I started doing practice tests. (3 from Real ACT, 2 from PR, 1 from Barrons) I only did 1-2 sections every day, but I would go over my answers afterwards.

On the June ACT, I got a 28.25 – 1 more point would have made it 28.5, which rounds up.
33E - up 7
30M - up 6
23R - up 1
27S - up 5

I’m really not sure what happened with reading. I usually scored between 27-30 on practice tests. I plan on taking the test again, this time focusing on reading speed and comprehension. (This also coincides with having to read a lot for AP Literature next year.)

I started at a 27 and am currently at a 32 so I think 5+ points is definitely possible (especially if you have a lopsided score).

Charlie Brown—What grade were you when you make a 27? And what grade were you in when you made a 32? Just curious

Also, does anyone have a recommended preparation plan? I’ve spent a lot of money buying books, and I feel they didn’t help. I got a 22 the first time, then a 21 on June’s test. I’m just feeling very discouraged because I need a 29. Maybe I’m not studying right or something…? I’m a smart person, and I know I’m definitely capable of getting a 29 - I just have a feeling I may be doing something wrong.

Let’s see…I got The Real ACT Prep, Dissecting the ACT, Princeton Review, and Kaplan’s ACT (which I stopped reading a while ago). To tell you the truth though, a week before June’s ACT, I kind of crash coursed in all the books. I think that may be the problem. Now, I can prepare this summer…I just don’t know when to start because I don’t want to forget all the info. by the time September 12 hits.

PS: Tutoring is not a viable option for me, unfortunately. I don’t have the money.

@ivers0n I think you can do it as long as you work hard, like what shizzle said. But in order to succeed, you’re going to need a working strategy to do so. I’m in the process of finding that “working” strategy now. I just have a feeling I’m not doing something right.

If anyone finds out that working strat, let me know. . . I need to raise my score.
