For many colleges, I know they ask you to write a "why our college" essay explaining why you should be admitted/go to their college. I really wish UVA requested one of these because I would definitely have a lot to say, but I did not see this on the website's list of admissions essays. I just wanted to double check - does UVA ask for one of these essays or anything like it?

No.

I’m rather glad they didn’t. See I didn’t know the real treasure of the school at the time and probably would have written something shallow.

Now I wouldn’t really be anywhere else. Except maybe MIT but only because I’ve only met great people there through friends at UVA (TJ kids hahahahaha).

But I really think the spirit of UVA is captured through its other essays (if they haven’t changed the format). Such is the brilliance of the admissions committee I only appreciate now.

(btw: writing about an unsettling / haunting musical piece is such a freeform and soulful essay topic you should pounce on. that’s what I pounced on anyway. well it doesn’t have to be haunting, but you see, this topic already takes you places. talking about music >> talking about any other type of art, science or lit. my take anyway)

if you apply to the A-School or Nursing School, they essentially give you a “why that school” essay. booooring.

Unfortunatly not. Look on Dean J’s blog, she has a list of the essays.
