Is there a word LIMIT for the "sense of yourself?"

Hello,

I know this has been asked before but in the threads I have looked at, there was mere speculation and no definitive answer. For the personal statement, "sense of yourself" essay, is there an actual word LIMIT, meaning you are prohibited from entering too many words?

The application says 250-500 words, but I have written a killer ~680 word essay, and I don't really want to shorten it. I've "poured my heart out," I suppose, and it's pretty succinct (I would say very succinct, but what do I know?), but the topic just takes a bit more than 500 words.

I know they don't like reading long essays, I absolutely understand that, but for the electronic/online application, does Columbia have an actual word limit?

Thank you very much

if the application says 250-500 words, that should be a good indication. mine was 530 words.

no physical limit. you upload a document. this means it can probably be as many words as you want, even though I would caution against going a lot over. 680 is pushing it. generally give or take 10% is a good range.
