Is there a word limit for the supplemental essay?

hi, i'm applying as an international student. the common app essays give u a word limit ranging from 250-500 words but i couldn't find one for the supplemental essay (describe an experience in which your values were tested. how have u grown as a result of the experience?). i have issues with word limits... i tend to go on and on... so is it alright if i write more than 500 words for the supplementary essay but stick to the word limit for the common app essay? hit me back soon, want to start working on this essay asap.

oh, and also this: when they ask you to describe an experience, does it have to be ONE specific experience taking place within a narrow time period or can it be a prolonged experience over x number of years?

Hey, I know I already responded to you personally, but I wanted to put my answer out there for other people to read. There is no word limit per se, but you'd be wise to keep it to two pages, single-spaced, 12 pt. font. Admissions officers have a lot of applications to get through and they don't really want to sit reading a long essay. If you can get your point across succinctly, eloquently and memorably, you're all set.

isn't 2 page SINGLE spaced too much?
I think it's like a thousand words. I think you mean 2 pages double spaced.

yeah, 2 page single spaced DOES sound too long... for a minute there, i was really happy... I'm having a problem keeping it short. can u pls clarify that, Lindyhopper3618??? single spaced or double spaced??

It's not a school essay in which the teacher writes comments all over the place and puts a grade on it. It would look more polished and pulled-together if it were single spaced. I'll amend my previous comment by saying that I would have it two pages single spaced absolute maximum. It's my philosophy that admissions officers are like AP graders; they like to be hit in the face with a stellar, memorable first impression of a concise, eloquent essay.
