Is there any way to apply to boarding school???????? help me!

i am really desperate right now. is there any boarding schools near new york or maybe even in CT state that i can apply in september???????? or at least for second semester?? i am in public hs(it really sucks), my grades avarage is B's. My mom is a single mom with salary lower than 50,000 a year maybe there are some schools with scholarships???? help i will, WILL really appreciate that!

I hate to burst your bubble, but for this school year the chances of finding a school that will take you so late are pretty slim. Finding a school that will accept students at second semester is also rare for that matter.

If by some means you find a school in your area that will accept you so late, getting financial aid will be even harder. Most is already given out by now.

My best guess is to look at Boarding School Review - College-Prep & Jr. Boarding Schools. They have a lot of useful information.

I'd say stick it out this year. Pull up your grades a bit. (B's aren't bad by anymeans, but better grades means better chances of acceptance.) Find a school that fits you. Since you're on the East Coast area there are probably a few schools around your area. (Not overly close but not too far.)

If your determined to get in this year just look. I don't know of any off the top of my head, but you never know. Ask around. Teachers normally know what's around.

Good luck!

Thanks a lot! Good answer! i will think...... i'll try to get on with my grades but thats not the final descision! i really need to transfer!

Not sure where you live, but are there any private day schools in your area?

I imagine that it will be very hard to find a school for this fall, particularly since many have started already.

Are there clubs/activities either in or out of your school that might be of interest to you? Maybe they, along with working on good study skills and improving your grades, would provide you with some positive experiences this year.

What grade are you in now, by the way?

^ I'm also questioning with BrooklynGuy on private schools in your area.

My district offers charter schools- public schools in the area with smaller student bodies and normally higher academics. They don't have as much to offer as the normal high school, but the students are usually a bit more mature and for lack of better word, intelligent. This might be an option for you, since you seem to dislike your current school, and you wouldn't have to worry about the price.

Just keep looking. Boarding School Directory is really good. That's where I got most of the information for the schools that I"m applying to.

i am junior!

i was really unhappy with my highschool freshman year, now im a sophomore applying for a refresh. just try to make the most out of the year. get involved, get good grades, etc

so you all say there is no way to get in from the second semester........?

Some schools offerif but very few.

The only one I can remember the name of is Wasatch Academy but, well that school is in Utah.

Look for smaller schools that are less prestigious. You'll have a better chance of getting into those second.

the only school I know of that might still have room and FA is Conserve -- but it is in Wisconsin.

there is certainly no harm in contacting some schools and asking -- but normally schools reserve FA for outstanding students at this late date mainly B's probably won't do it.

Your chances will be better if you're willing to expand your search beyond NY and CT. We (St. Andrew's-Sewanee - St. Andrew's-Sewanee School) will be accepting a few students at midyear.

thanks a lot! maybe that will help! Also right now i have all A's and a gpa 3.5

Hi Breddy, once you've homed in on some schools that fit your criteria (academics, size, location, atmosphere etc), I'd suggest that you get on the phone and speak with people in admissions, perhaps ask for an interview and find out what the possiblities are specifically for you to be admitted mid-year. I know someone who was admitted mid-year to a very competitive school, with a full scholarship.

that is very interesting!!!!! thanks! i'll do my BEST!
cheers
