Overall, my uc gpa is a 3.66
My ACT score was a 23. I get severe anxiety during these college entrance exams that limits my ability to do well so I said that on my application. It’s too late for me to retake now unfortunately but i’ve already taken it 3 times and done terrible every time, regardless of how much I study or think I am prepared. It sucks.
My school's API score is an 8 out of 10
Current 12th grade schedule: AP Government, AP Microeconomics, Spanish 3, AP stats, English 12, and a Sociology course at a local college
I don’t know if this really changes things, but I am an African American.
I have a bunch of extracurriculars! I am the president of a club, the director of another club, the pianist for my church’s choir, the secretary in my church’s planning committee, a singer in my church’s choir, and way more things. I have way more extracurriculars too! I also have a job.
I also wrote a pretty good personal statement.
What do you think my chances are of getting into UCR? Thank you!
hmm, i would say that this school is a bit of a reach for you. the averages for UCR are
High School GPA
3.78
ACT Composite Score
26
In my book you really need to meet or exceed these requirements to have a decent shot of acceptance.
your ECs might help but only so much. perhaps a killer essay could tip your chances. To be frank, with a 23 act things do look grim. I suffer from anxiety as well, in fact i wrote my personal statement about it. But i find that a good nights sleep and proper breakfast really helped. and studying alot will help you feel more confident as well. I was able to attain a 32 through these methods. try these things when you test and it may help.
there’s no way you’d end up in community college unless UCR is the only school you applied to. A 3.6 and 23 ACT are about average so you’ll have no problem finding a good fit as long as you keep your goals within reach. And even if you don’t get into UCR, the UC system refers you to another UC that would accept you, which would most likely be both Merced (although I would never go there, it’s a wasteland), and Santa Cruz (which is fairly nice and in a great area). So if your goal is to get into a UC in general, you should be good. However, if your goal is only UCR, you might need to do some more searching
URM status not relevant for California publics. Agree that UCR is a slight reach but possible and UC Merced. I would also look at some of the Cal states such as SDSU, CSU Fullerton, Long Beach and Cal poly Pomona which have many programs on par with the UC’s.
@mkolta14: Congratulations. To clarify, I stated a slight reach but possible, so you did the “possible”. No one on CC is an admissions officer and none of these chances should be considered gospel. I wish you the best of luck.
