Is there ever a way to find out why?

Like why you got in...

I've seen people on these boards who didn't get into UCSB with higher SAT and higher GPAs than me and I just wonder.

My score on the SAT was 1720 my GPA is 3.5 (uw), I have five C's on my transcript (curse Math!)

Not to downplay my achievements, but I still just wonder.

...but I think it has to do with one of my essays, which I thought were amazing.

Incorrect about the essays. They really don’t matter for much when it comes to every UC except Berkeley and LA. They are only there to award you points for certain things. UCSB doesn’t say much about their point system, only UCSD is very upfront about it.

They want diversity. They don’t want a class in which every kid had a 4.0 and a 2400.

^
Well I guess that’s good for kids like me who are smart, even if they don’t have 2000+ on the SAT.

I’ve read this page several times, but it’s still vague.
