Is there hope?

Hey so I'm a junior and Oxy is one of the colleges I'm thinking about applying to and I'm curious if there's a realistic chance of admission. My SAT scores are CR: 710, W: 660, M: 540. (That was my first time. I'm hoping I can get Writing and Math up a significant amount in this bout.) I'm also the Features section editor of my school paper (going to be editor-in-chief next year). I've ran hurdles on my track team for two years and took first in league among the Junior Varsity girls last year and 3rd in league this year among the Varsity girls. My weighted GPA for the first semester was 4.14 with a pretty rigorous schedule. The thing is that freshman and the first semester of sophomore year, my grades were abysmal and so I'm wondering how much they'll judge my overall performance or whether they'll value my upward trend and growth. I'm pretty much freaking out about college and I would love love love someone who got accepted to Oxy's opinion.

oxy is very holistic with admissions, so I wouldn’t worry too much. if there are any reasons for your poor freshman and sophomore performance, be sure to explain them. it sounds like you’re doing great now, which is vital. keep it up and gl!

p.s. as is, your SAT score is solid, especially because most liberal arts schools like oxy value CR over math. still, it’d be wise to boost the math.

oh, and there’s always hope (and in your case, you have decent chances as well)!
