I'm kind of stuck in a ditch here. Every college I look at, I see huge amounts of loans being borrowed. UMN has always been my #1 choice but I am starting to re-think my order of colleges because UMN's financial aid for me consisted of all loans. I really want to attend UMN. In fact, I am visiting the campus on Friday this week to finalize my choices. I have huge interest and I don't want to walk away from UMN just because of some financial matters. How do I convince UMN to reconsider my financial aid? Is that even possible?

Nope. I too am in the same position as you. I called One Stop, Freshman Admissions, and the Financial Aid office each of them directing me to someone else until I finally spoke to a FA advisor who told me that “this year was a very competitive year, we’re out of scholarship money, etc.”

I’m an out of state student so this made my decision even tougher, but ultimately I decided that the fact that UMN is the only truly urban campus in the Big 10 is something priceless when it comes to the internship opportunities and such that I can get there.

Im in the same boat as both of you. My question is, where does the money go that is offered to kids who apply there but don’t actually end up going? Is there a chance that its redistributed to kids who are after the may 1st deadline?
