Is this a bad/broad topic for the Common App essay?

  1. Describe a problem you've solved or a problem you'd like to solve. It can be an intellectual challenge, a research query, an ethical dilemma-anything that is of personal importance, no matter the scale. Explain its significance to you and what steps you took or could be taken to identify a solution.

I want to write about how I was lost and unmotivated during the first two years of high school and how I didn’t care about school or grades, but then I managed to turn it around because of events that happened over the course of a summer and now I’m focused and ambitious, I’m following my passion as a computer science major, and I know exactly what I want out of my life.

Would this be a good essay? Any feedback would be amazing!

I think it could be really good! You might want to read the eBook on here because it has tips on what not to write about, but your topic may also help explain why your grades were not as good during your first two years of high school

In my opinion I would shy away from writing about grades and talk about your summer experience. Focus on the moments and show don’t tell.

Thanks guys!!
Bumpp … does anyone else have an opinion?

Don’t draw attention to any negatives. Your topic sounds like an excuse.
