Is this a bad idea?

So I'm a rising senior, and I was planning on taking AP calc next year. But math is really not my thing. Since I took my first year of high school math in 8th, I do have four years. But my question is would it look bad to schools if I chose not to take a math my senior year?

You’re going to have to take math in college, so you’re best off taking AB Calculus as a senior and then taking calc again as a freshman in college. If you take a year off from math you’re probably still going to start out in calculus in college, and it’ll be a much rougher road when you had pre-cal more than a year before.

^ I agree with spdf. It’s hard taking a year off of math, especially right before entering college.

That is true. Thanks for pointing that out…I could always retake precalc, I had an 85 overall, but there is a ton of stuff I was just lucky on. Though I don’t know if colleges would look at that too favorably either…

You should take another math, but it doesn’t need to be AP. Is there anything else offered at your school, like a non-AP calculus?

It seems as if you are not challenging yourself. Honestly, Calculus is not so bad if you go in head first.

Calculus AB should be a relatively gentle introduction to calculus – it is like a semester of calculus over a whole year. Calculus BC would be the full speed version.

It would probably be a good idea to take at least Calculus AB in your situation.
