For the Cornell supplemental essays, is it a bad idea for me to write about my passion for math in the academic interest essay and then write about the biology-related stuff in the what you would like to pursue in the school? I am applying to CALS and was wondering if I should just write the first essay on my interest in bio, and if the two should be related. I'm equally interested in both math and bio, but have a bit more to write about for math. What to do???

Could you write about both math and bio in the first essay? Maybe you could try to tie the two together somehow so that the essay flows.

yeah good idea. for me it was sort of a 2 part essay split into two discrete smaller essays. the questions are linked. to appear more together, try and thing of them as a series rather than seperate entities.

I'm trying to do that, but the 250word limit really makes it hard to do both.

it's a challenge, you just have to cut your essay to only essential stuff. that includes cutting out some good stuff.

wait...so could any of u guys give me a quick example? its bugging me too

If I were an adcomm I would be thinking "this kid is probably going to do bioinformatics but he just doesn't know it yet". I wouldn't stress out about it, most incoming students either don't know what their interests are or they have them all over the place.
