Is this a good idea for a college essay? (homeschool topic)

I was homeschooled for most of middle school, and I went back to the normal school setting in 8th grade and obviously stayed there for all of high school too. I’m wondering if it’s a good idea to talk about my transition from homeschool back into the normal school setting. I grew a lot from that transition period to where my character/personality was drastically shaped by the homeschool experience and the transition back into regular school.

I feel like that’s a little less broad than just talking about how homeschooling in general has affected me, because I’m talking specifically about the transition period of my life. I think that by talking about that chapter of my life that drastically helped shape my personality, while also talking about the obstacles I had to overcome during that period of my life, that it helps give the admissions officers a good insight on my personality, character, and obstacles I had to overcome to get where I am today.

This is an idea because my first college essay idea crashed and burned. Any feedback is appreciated.
Thanks.

Well… it seems like it was some time ago, which isn’t great. I also worry about topics where something seemed like a huge hurdle to the writer, and at the end — they were just on par with everyone around them. It doesn’t exactly resonate. Maybe stop worrying about the prompts for right now. Do you have any hobbies? (Per your other posts, it looks like you are a junior — which is good, you can take your time brainstorming and considering topics.)

I agree…it’s just a little too long ago in your life. Unless somehow you can relate it to your overall high school experience and make it positive. Maybe you find you are a more curious learner or more independent because of your home school years? Did the home school experience help shape what you want to do with your studies/life?

Agreed regarding don’t worry about the prompts. My son wrote an essay for his common ap and they we decided which prompt he could fit it into.
