Is homeschooling a good topic?

I was homeschooled my whole life until freshman year when I started public school, would this be a good thing to write about?

I think it depends a LOT on what you say.

They’ll know you were homeschooled from your transcript, so it won’t be news to them. And you won’t be the first homeschooled kid who has applied.

What you say about that experience matters. If you go on and on about how you hated school, how the kids were mean or the teachers ignorant, then I think it will be a problem.

But if you offer some sort of a fresh perspective on the subject, it could be an interesting read.

As long as you are positive, it could be interesting. Just really depends on the angle you take. What’s the prompt?

Common App #1:
Some students have a background, identity, interest, or talent that is so meaningful they believe their application would be incomplete without it. If this sounds like you, then please share your story.

seconding bjkmom: is the fact of your being homeschooled a really meaningful part of who you are? Is it one of the most meaningful parts? if so, it might be a good topic- depending on what the narrative arc is. Where does the story go for the 4 years since you stopped being home schooled?
