Is this a good idea?

I wanted to take AP Macro and micro economics my senior year but my school doesn't offer it as a class or as an online class. So my counselor told me my only option was to take it at a community college. I'm pretty sure the credits won't transfer to any of the schools I'm looking at going to but I want to take the classes anyway and then take the AP test at the end of the year. Is this a good idea? What will colleges think of it?

You’ll be showing that you take the initiative to pursue topics that interest you outside of the classroom; it’s a good thing. Plus, you can always claim ‘self-study’. :D

Wait I’m confused… do colleges even care if you self-study? Do you put that on your application and they consider it? Because I thought that colleges don’t look at self-studied AP’s, and that they don’t even place very much importance on the AP Exam scores.

That’s what I thought as well, icenotmice. But it doesn’t make sense to me. What do other people think about it?

Taking a college class looks great on college apps! Plus you’ll get college credit, which colleges also love. Other than that, both your parents and peers will be impressed that you can handle a college class in high school. Definitely take it!

You could self-study it with a review book. That is if you’re motivated. Don’t bother if you’re not interested.
