So I would like to be a special agent in some agency, FBI, DHS, etc. Will majoring in criminal justice and getting a bachelors in it and minoring in prelaw and then after undergrad going to law school and getting a JD make myself have good chances of getting into a special agent position? I'm in high school and I will apply to colleges soon so I have to make up my mind pretty soon. Thanks everyone for the responses.

This site may be of help

Why don’t you try to figure out which colleges the FBI comes to recruit?

Here’s what I’ve heard about places like the FBI/DHS: They’re up to their ears in criminal justice majors, and this isn’t what they need. They need people with all kinds of skills in a variety of areas, like tech fields, but everyone seems to think they have to major in CJ to work for these places.

Also, what are your alternative plans if you don’t get a special agent position, or what to do before getting such a position (since I’m guessing these places also wouldn’t mind hiring applicants with experience)?

Yes what Nano said. Before graduating High school I called an FBI recruiter and asked them what would be the route for someone wanting to work for the FBI after college. When I mentioned Criminal Justice this is the response she gave me, “To be completely honest, when we see a CJ degree we put the resume aside.” I was so surprised. Anyhow, there’s a lot of info on the FBI site of different majors and whatnot. Hope this helps!
