I'm in 8th grade and I took the PSAT recently. OK, in October. But anyway, I don't know if I did well or not because there isn't an average for everyone or anything. So I got:

Reading: 53
Math: 69
Writing: 52

Total: 174

Is this good for an 8th grader?

omg! This is amazing! Just apply to Harvard right now! You will get in with that score!

It is a good score for an 8th grader. Just practice for the SAT starting in freshman year, and you should do a lot better on the PSAT in sophomore and junior year. Then, as a junior and senior, you should do even better on the SAT. If you are shooting for top schools, try to get above a 2100, but 2250+ is preferable for admission. Remember, SAT scores aren’t everything, but they are important.

My son is far from a genius and got 179 as a freshman. That put him in the 89 percentile. As you can see, nothing to brag about but nothing to be ashamed neither.

As a sophomore he got 193. That put him in the 93 percentile. Again, nothing to brag about but nothing to be ashamed.

This year as a Junior he got 221. That puts him in the 99 percentile. Most likely NMSF here in Florida.

What this illustrates is that if you start with a good PSAT, you will very likely reach a really, really high level.

Again, my son is not a genius or gifted or attend a super-duper, special school. He is just a regular kid attending a title I school in Miami, Florida.

Good luck to you!

For an 8th grader thats a really good start. My son was a little higher, and starting in the SUMMER of his 8th grade, he studied about 20 min. per day until 9th grade test. He did the same each year until the PSAT in junior year and got a 234 out of 240. He is a NMsemi-finalist, most likely will be named a finalist. Good for you. Take this start and keep going. It’s amazing how many schools offer $ for NMF.
