I'm just wondering if i could use piano as my hook.

I've received my High School Diploma in Social Music and my High School Diploma in Music from the American College of Musicians. They've also awarded me with plaques, medals, honorary pins, and certificates. I was wondering if this would be considered as a hook.

If you're considering the Ivies or other top schools, I suppose it could be considered a hook, particularily if you have impressive awards (like national, not just school awards). It shows that you have passion in something, which is what colleges want.

It can be beneficial, but rarely a hook. Major competition wins (not all state selections), semi pro/pro performance background, unusual instrument add to the potential.

A lot will depend on the specific school, the quality (or lack thereof) of their music program, and the admissions pool. A nice EC, often showing major committment of passion, effort, and time, but rarely a deciding admissions factor.
