I recently got into contact with a professor at a prestigious medical school. He quasi-offered me an intriguing research project to work on over the summer, but has not responded to my last email in roughly a week. Should I resume my search? I called him once but all I got was an answering machine.

260 views and no advice? Come on, guys.

If it’s been a week, keep waiting. Sometimes professors are away on trips/vacation/etc. and don’t respond to their email, so I’d give it a few more days. If he still doesn’t reply, send a friendly, polite email asking him if he is still willing to offer you a position.

it is possible he is traveling or just away from the office for spring break…

I agree with batfan… next week, I would send a followup email, polite and short. Also, I would keep looking for positions until you officially have one.

Alright, thanks guys! I’ll keep my hopes up. I want/need this research opp.
