Thanks!
Wonderful news about Bates! Such a great school. I’m sure your son will have an amazing experience.
Just wanted to add my congratulations to your son! Sounds like the perfect match!
Thanks so much for sharing your and your son’s journey. I’ve learned a lot on CC, but your approach to the college search was especially helpful for me.
So glad to hear it! I hope you’ll keep us posted about your search
Of course. But you deserve to be congratulated as well. In my experience, the apple soesn’t fall far from the tree, so all of the support you gave him, all of your research, and all of your expectations contributed mightily to this moment. So, congratulations!!!
May you dance!
So nice of you to say! Thanks for the good wishes!
So many congratulations on the Oxy ED admission!! We visited it in October and we’re blown away by this school. Our daughter applied ED 1 to Reed (hasn’t heard yet) and debating ED2 to Oxy.
Thanks very much. Keeping my fingers crossed for you on Reed (what an amazing place!). Glad to share anything I can about Oxy.
Fwiw my S22 was accepted EA at Reed on Monday. The acceptance did not come via the portal but via regular mail. They sent a book (Ralph Ellison’s Invisible Man) and some other materials. It’s such a terrific school, and the very unique acceptance only reinforces that.
I just wanted to mention that since our mail is pretty erratic these days and it must have been in transit for a while since my son had withdrawn his application per the ED requirement elsewhere a few days earlier electronically. We were only checking portals - it never occurred to us that the first notice might actually come in the mail! Good luck to your DD!
Thanks to both of you! Our D22 will keep working on her applications for every other school on her list. Quite a few students heard from Reed back on the 15th so it’s been a long wait.
Belated congrats! His first choice + a merit award + not having to worry and wait and stress through the next few months is the best possible outcome. I hope Oxy is everything he envisions.
You’re so kind. Yes, it was a wonderful outcome and he’s still tickled about it. Having this part of his life resolved, especially as Omicron disrupts all of the other parts has been a true relief. Thanks Oxy!
It’s so heartbreaking to watch all of his peers continue to struggle with the deferrals, uncertainty, and waiting. I know that, in the end, they’re all going to land where they’re supposed to, but it’s hard not to look at this Hunger Games process and think it’s not developmentally appropriate for 17 year-olds.
I completely agree. The high stakes college admissions process can appear very arbitrary and demoralizing to the students (and parents) who are in it. If I had to do it all over again, I’d have steered my younger kid away from the topmost tier - lots of waiting, deferrals, waitlists, rejections. That’s all in the rearview mirror now and there was a happy ending - I just wish the path had been easier.
Congratulations on your daughter’s acceptance to Reed!
@cosmopolitan2022 Am curious how Occidental is working out now that we are (!) halfway through freshman year! My son is enjoying it at Oxy a great deal and often talks about it being a good fit- that’s the best possible outcome of all the hard work we as families put in last year!
Glad to hear that he’s having a good experience! My son also reports that Oxy has been a great fit for him. He’s very happy with the academic experience, and the faculty and staff have been extremely supportive, especially when he had any kind of difficulty. He’s still having some bumps in the transition socially, but that’s more a function of his shyness than anything else. Overall, we’re really happy with his choice
Very nice to hear!
