Yes, 6 APs in a year can be a lot, but if you manage it well you should be fine.
Why three social sciences?
What about science?
DS took 6 APs this year. It has been very time consuming. I can’t imagine him doing that while also applying to colleges. He will only take 4 his senior year. He opted out of AP Lit, which requires ALOT of reading, and is taking honors instead.
We had looked at the AP policies for some of the schools he is considering, and took into account if and how each course would apply to his major or general education requirements.
I would suggest replacing one of your 3 AP social sciences to an AP or Honors Science…?
@ohiopop @mommdc I already took Honors Physics and Chem, College Microbiology and AP Bio, the only science class left is enviormental science and it seen as a “joke” at my school.
Its too bad your school does not offer AP Physics or AP Chem? It is always nice, in the most selective colleges to not skip on Maths or Sciences. Other schools also see AP Micro/Macro and AP Gov as a joke. In fact a lot of students just self study those and then take the AP test. So for balance, and for the sake of not looking like you are intentionally skipping on Science, if your school does not offer AP Chem or Physics, then substituing AP Micro or Gov with AP Environmental, might look less questionnable? But its really trivial at this point. And for sure, if you are planning to major in the Social Sciences, it would be nice to have those instead of Environmental Science. But if you are planning to go into Biology, or Math or anything other than the humanities, the most competitive schools, we were told, look for 4 years of Math, 4 years of Science, etc.
Best of luck!
@ohiopop Thanks for the help! Unfortunately, I go to a school where econ and gov are a requirement for graduation so there is possibly no way for me to opt out of those classes. The only switch I can really make at this point is replace euro with envio science, which i might just go ahead an do. I plan on majoring in nursing, and hope to get into UCLA or UCI nurising programs.
My daughter had both AP lit and AP Euro junior year, it was a big time commitment. I agree I would not want that amount of work senior year with college applications, essays, etc.
It seems like it’d be a lot, but then again we’re in the same boat, I guess.
I’m taking AP Physics 2: Algebra-Based, AP English Literature, AP European History, AP Government, AP Macroeconomics, AP Calculus BC, AP Biology, a dual enrollment EMT course, and am an officer of two clubs. (In three, planning to join 3 more.)
I’ve seen people do as many as ten AP classes in a year and make it perfectly fine. It’s just the issue of time that would come up. There be some serious time management involved, but it is doable.
If environmental science is AP at your school, I would suggest replacing AP European History with that. Besides that, it looks good.
Thanks for the Input! This is my revised and official schedule
1st AVID
2nd AP CALC AB
3rd AP Econon Macro/Micro
4th AP Enviormental
5th Lunch
6th AP French
7th AP LIt
8th AP GOV
Taking AP Pysch and Communcations during the summer!
If anything, I would drop AP Micro & Macro. It looks good though, as long as you can keep up and do well. Best of luck
This is a lot… How many APs did you have this year and what grades did you get?
Of all of them, considering your requirements etc, I’d replace AP Lit with Honors English.
Even with APES instead of AP Euro, it’s going to be very very tough since you’ll have the equivalent of an extra class with college applications!
I took Medical Terminology 120 (A) Duall Enrollment, Medical Biology 100 Duall Enrollment (A) (A)
French 3 (A) (A) APUSH (A) (A) Avid 11 (A) (A+) AP Lang (A-) (A) Precal H (B+) (Not on file yet)
AP Bio (A-) (A-) Unfortunately I need to take Econ inorder to gradute same with gov. Also APES is a joke at my school so it shouldn’t be too bad. I would take honors english but my school does not offer that class this year, same with honors calc or stats.
