I’m brainstorming a couple of ideas for my common app essay to answer prompt #1, but I’m not sure if I am writing things that would give a better insight to who I am. Right now, I’m thinking about going with the idea of my fear of death which connects with my goal of making something out of my life. However, I fear that my essay might become too dark. If I could make it work, would it be appropriate topic to choose? I just don’t want to give off anything bad.
You could change it up a little bit and say that you aren’t necessarily afraid of death, but are afraid that you haven’t lived enough, if that makes sense? That might bring a little light to it
@lnicole I think that’s what I’m trying to say, so thank you for clearing it up for me a bit! I’m going to try to connect that with how it has shaped me so that should definitely help me lighten the essay up a bit. Thank you!
Don’t focus on the prompts. Figure out something you want to tell admissions about, then figure out what prompt it fits in. This doesn’t sound like a topic that will make them say, “Yes, this kid is interesting and I want them on campus!” Remember, that is your goal.
