Is this a silly worry?

First off, here are my son's scores:

SAT -1350/1980 single score or 1430/2060 superscored

ACT: 30 composite score with a 29 in English (30 Science, 32 Reading, 30 Math)

27 writing score with 8 essay

I think that the ACT score is similar to the single scored SAT but not as good as the superscored one. (Although, the ACT writing score is low compared to his SAT writing score I think.)

The GC says we should send both the ACT and SAT scores...but
to tell you the truth, I worry that some input person in the admissions office won't really know which is a better score and end up inputting the wrong one! (We are looking at large schools where I'm sure they have administrative staff plugging in scores, or sorting applications by scores.)

To add to the confusion, when I look at some schools on Naviance, I sometimes see an anomaly where a school will have accepted everyone with a given GPA and SATs over my son's single sitting score, but will not have admitted kids with the same GPA and an ACT score higher than my son's. (This makes me want to have him not send the ACT score to that school!)

Is this a silly worry? Should I just have him send all score and hope that the college can figure it out? I guess I'm just lacking confidence about that....

Thanks!

I think the most important thing is to seek out colleges where your child’s score is in the mid range of accepted students. Also, find colleges which are good fit for your child.

It seems that the scores are relatively comparable (an ACT 30 roughly equates to a 1340 CR+M SAT). Most schools do not superscore, so there’s no harm in sending both. Is your S planning to retake the ACT? If he were to improve that, he could send only that test score, as it’s still unclear how schools are going to deal with selecting one SAT test to send.
