One of my best friends is having a tough time deciding what she wants to major in for her undergrad degree when she goes to college. She loves languages, and if she goes to the college of her choice (Pitt), she might take in Russian...

But yes, she also wants to teach. One of her nephews has autism and she wants to teach children like him. Pitt has a grad program where she could get an MEd in Autism Specialization...

Is it a smart move/okay to have an undergrad degree in a language such as Russian and go for an MEd in Autism studies? (especially because they're not related...?)

Pitt doesn’t have an undergrad major in ed. You have to apply to the ed school for the masters program, so you should look on the website and/or call to find out what majors would be acceptable. I would think that psychology (or english or math) might be more applicable than Russian.

There are undergraduate track teacher certifications programs, with prerequisites you would need to take, and then you finish by earning a master is education in a fifth year. Some programs require you to apply to the School of Education in your sophomore year. You should really contact someone in the School of Education and try to set up a meeting to discuss your questions.
