Is this a "special circumstance" worth mentioning?

I know that colleges take into account certain special circumstances in admissions, but I wasn't sure if my situation counted as one. I live in a single-parent household, and my mother, a nurse, works 12-hour night shifts 3 or 4 days a week. I've had to take care of my younger brother over the course of most of high school when she's gone. He doesn't have any special health issues or anything like that, more like a permanent babysitting job or something of that sort.

Would this be worth mentioning at all? As an extra-curricular, extra notes, section, etc. Or should I just keep it to myself?

Thanks in advance for any answers.

It really can be considered an EC (just like a job). It shows maturity and consistency.

It may also help to explain if you do not have many extra curricular activities.

Do find a way to mention it. It is part of your life and an important piece of where you are.

Under activities in the Common app, you can actually select under activity type helping at home - so put it under your activities

Thanks for the help!

This would be something great to have the GC letter mention.
