The prompt reads:
" Reflect on a time when you questioned or challenged a belief or idea. What prompted your thinking? What was the outcome?"
I would like to write how I questioned God on why I was created like this and my struggles and realizations and finally an increased understanding of my sexuality and my religion. Is this a topic I should avoid?
You could use it. But remember that a college essay isn’t a journal or a therapy session. You do NOT need to reveal your deepest secrets. Your goal is to make them want you on campus. You likely have multiple ways you could answer the prompts. Figure out what is interesting and unique about you, and use that. Have you read this?

Totally agree! I’d say go with it but make sure to relate it back to yourself in a way that ‘makes them want you.’
It’s kinda hard to figure out how universities such as “Stanford” makes them want me. The theme of the essay is I basically questioned God and how after moving to America realize that it’s ok to be gay. Would anyone want to read my essay?
EDIT: Also the subject isn’t my sexuality but how my beliefs in the doctrines of the Church made me question who I am as a person and my existence.
They want people who are accomplished, but also creative and interesting. Going to be honest – religious and sexuality angst show up all the time in essays. Common themes for adolescents – it won’t stand out as much as you might think. Don’t feel like you need to have a “big” or sweeping topic.
Thank you for your candor. I had a feeling about that. I actually had another essay which talked about my love for learning languages and their corresponding culture but it was poorly written so I abandoned it. Probably gonna write another one. Thank you once again.
